- Cardiac Effects: May cause or worsen angina, arrhythmias, or severe hypertension. Use with extreme caution in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
- Drug Interactions: Potentially interacts with MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, and other adrenergic-potentiating drugs, leading to severe hypertension.
- Hypovolemia Correction: Hypovolemia should be corrected prior to or concomitant with Levophed therapy, unless immediate intervention is life-saving.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only if clearly needed, and the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus or infant.
