How to Use

5. Administer as a bolus injection over approximately 5 minutes or as an intravenous infusion over 15-30 minutes.

Caution & Warnings

• Allergic Reactions: Do not use if you have a known history of hypersensitivity to meropenem, other carbapenems, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Seek immediate medical attention if signs of an allergic reaction occur (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing).
• Seizures and CNS Effects: Meropenem can cause central nervous system side effects, including seizures, especially in patients with pre-existing CNS disorders or renal impairment.
• Clostridioides difficile-Associated Diarrhea: Antibiotic use, including meropenem, can lead to severe diarrhea due to C. difficile. This may occur during or after treatment.
• Renal Impairment: Dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with impaired kidney function.
• Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, especially valproic acid, as meropenem can significantly reduce its levels.
• Pregnancy and Lactation: Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed and after careful risk-benefit assessment by a physician.
• Resistance: Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
