Caution & Warnings
Before taking EVISTA, consider the following important warnings:
- Venous Thromboembolism: EVISTA increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). This risk is highest during the first few months of treatment.
- Cardiovascular Risk: An increased risk of fatal stroke has been observed in clinical trials. Do not use if you have a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: EVISTA is not for use in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It may harm the fetus or infant.
- Premenopausal Women: This medication is not indicated for use in premenopausal women.
- Liver and Kidney Impairment: Use with caution in patients with hepatic or severe renal impairment.
- Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as interactions may occur.
- Surgical Procedures: Discontinue EVISTA at least 72 hours prior to and during prolonged immobilization (e.g., surgery or prolonged bed rest) due to increased risk of VTE.
